Center Bet

The center bet is placed before the come out throw by the shooter. The shooter will announce to the table that he will shoot the amount of money he is placing in the middle of the table. The other players will then place their bet, called a fade, which is the part of the total of the original bet that they wish to make. They will place the amount they want to bet based on the shooter’s bet.

Player fade bets may be made at any time unless the players determine a method to placing them before the game begins. The money will be placed in the center of the table until the total amount has been faded or until no other player wants to put more money in the pot. In the circumstance that other players do not faded the center bet completely then the shooter may decide to withdraw the amount of bet that has not been faded or else call off all of the bets and say “no bet”. Players can fade up to the shooter’s center bet amount, but no more. If the players want to bet more the shooter can always add more to his center bet.

Settling the Center Bet

Settling the center bet is pretty easy. IF the cards lose then the players will receive their original bets back in addition to the payout of the center bet. However if the cards win then the shooter will collect all of the money that is in the center.

The center bet is an even money bet, with a payout of 1 to 1. The probability of the cards passing is 1.414% against the shooter on the center bet.

Other Bets

Any other bet made is considered a side bet. This is similar to the center bet in that it must be arranged before any cards have been dealt. Remember that the shooter can make as many side bets as he wants as well as change the center bet.

Hardway Bet

The Hardway bet is a bet based on whether the shooter will take the “hard way” to throw a certain number. This means getting a number through a double. Hardway bets are available for 4, 6, 8 or 10 because 4 may be achieved with 2+2 and six with 3+3, 8 with 4+4 and 10 with 5+5. If a seven is thrown the n the right bettor loses. Also, if the number that is bet on is thrown in any o9terh form first then it loses, too. So, if an 8 and 2 are thrown for a 10 before 5, 5, then this loses.

Double Hardway

The double hardway is not a debt but rather a payment of double that is made when a 4, 6, 8, or 10 is thrown with two cards of the same suit. So, two 4s of hearts thrown would result in a double hardway. The wrong bettors make the payment to the players that chose to take the “right bet” that the shooter would make the point. This helps to equalize that chance that both types of bettors will have of winning even number points.

Off Number Bet

For an off number bet two players will agree up front on a number that they choose. If the shooter throws a number before a seven then the right bettor wins. Before a decision is made bets may be called off.

Proposition

A proposition includes any side bet the players might dream up and agree upon. There are no limits on proposition bets. The proposing player always has the advantage with propositions and these will fall into one of two categories.

Category 1

The first category is a bet that a certain number will appear after a specific amount of throws. A bet might be “three throw bets’ or else one or two throw bets.

Category 2

The second category includes bets on a certain number that will show up before a 7 or another certain number that has been specified before.

For each category, the following number that may be bet on include:

  1. A specific number that may be thrown in any way.
  2. A specific number that must be thrown in a specific way.
  3. Any number that is part of a group of numbers that is thrown before a 7. An example of this is odd numbers, or other specified numbers.

Different Bets in Card Craps

The following bets require that two players are in agreement. In the case of right and wrong bets there are two different bettors. The “wrong” bettor is the one that lays the odds that the cards will not pass a certain number or that the numbers bet on will not be made. Then, there is the “right” bettor. This is the player that takes odds on the cards believing that they will make the number bet on or that they will pass the specific cards.

The odds and the bet may be suggested by either bettor. However, when the game is practice the more experience players are generally the “wrong” bettors and suggest odds they know the less knowledgeable player will “take.”

Flat bet

A flat bet is a normal bet that is based on whether or not the come out throw from the shooter will pass or not. This is a side bet that is made between two players, sometimes including the shooter. Flat bets are more common when the entire bet has been faded by one player.

Point Bet

A point bet is made based on whether or not players think the shooter will make a point on his come out throw. The flat bets and center bets will be settled in the normal way

Come Bet

A come bet is a bet based on what cards will pass and what cards wont. However, This is based on the point throw as if it were a come out throw when it really is not. Although the shooter is throwing for a point the players make their bets as if it is the come out throw and if a seven is thrown then the player sevens out although this is a “come’ for the come bet because on the come out throw a seven is a natural.

On the come out bet, 11 is also a natural however 2, 3, and 12 are all craps so the cards won’t come. These numbers leave the bet in the middle undecided because there is not a number 7 or a point.

Should the shooter throw a point number on the come out throw for the come bet then this is the number for the come bet. The outcome of this will depend on whether or not a 7 or point is thrown next.

If on the center bet a shooter makes a point without the come bet point being made first then the players that made the come bet may choose to withdraw the bet or else continue until the shooter’s next turn.

True Odds in Card Craps
The true odds depends on the bet. For example, for a 12 the odds for a single throw are 35-1 and before a 7 are 6-1. The comparative odds are 12.

For 11, the true odds for a single throw is 17-1 while the odds of an 11 before a seven are 3-1. The comparative odds are 2-1 for 12. For a 10 the single throw odds are 11-1 and before a 7 are 2-1. For a 9 the single throw odds are 8-1 and before a 7 are 3-2.  For an 8 the single throw odds are 31-5 and for the odds before a 7 they are 6-5. For a 7 the single throw odds are 5-1. For a 6 the single throw odds are 31-5 and before a 7 are 6-5. For a 5 the single throw odds are 8-1 and before a 7 3-2. For a 4 the single throw odds are 11-1 and before a 7 they are 2-1. For a 3, single throw odds are 17-1 and before a 7 is 3-1. For a 2, the single throw odds are 35-1 and before a 7 are 6-1. In order to calculate the odds for any grouping of numbers the easiest way to do so is to add all of the numbers in a group and then compare that with the ways the numbers can be made in another group.

The True Odds for one throw bets for the following numbers are as follows:

35-1 for throws against specified pairs, like 4+4, 17-1 for specified combinations of two different numbers like 6+5 and 8-1 for any craps 2, 3, or 12.
